Recall of Tylenol/Motrin/Zyrtec & Benadryl

McNeil Consumer Healthcare and FDA notified healthcare professionals of a voluntary recall of certain over-the-counter (OTC) Children’s and Infants’ liquid products manufactured in the United States, including Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, and Benadryl products. Some of these products may not meet required quality standards. This recall is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse medical events. However, as a precautionary measure, parents and caregivers should not administer these products to their children. WHAT MEDICATION CAN MY CHILD TAKE?

Products not manufactured by McNeil may be used for an ill child:
For Motrin (Ibuprofen): Use Children's Advil or generic Ibuprofen
For Tylenol (Acetaminophen): Use generic Acetaminophen (e.g. Target brand)
For Zyrtec (Cetirizine): Use Zyrtec chewable (10mg; over 6 yo) or Claritin
For Benadryl ((Diphenhydramine): Use Claritin or generic diphenhydramine
